 By Emile Hallez “There are firms out there offering mobile experiences to retirement plan clients, but it’s not something that’s extremely widespread. A lot of firms... are taking their first steps in entering the mobile space,” says Dan Wiegand, senior analyst and head of mobile research at Corporate Insight, noting that providing account access is more essential on the brokerage side of the business, where trades are more frequent. “What it comes down to is showing some creativity... rather than using the mobile channel as a subset of what you do online.” TIAA-Cref, for example, includes a “Financial IQ” feature in its app, in addition to providing general account access, kasina’s Binder notes. Among the app’s features are a 10-question “test your money smarts” quiz and a tool that calculates estimated savings based on cutting monthly expenditures ranging from DVD purchases to dog grooming and redirecting them to a retirement account.
