While most financial services firms have devoted considerable time and effort to connecting with their customers via social media, American Express continues to be a step ahead of the competition in this space. Over the past year, AmEx has forged partnerships with Facebook and Foursquare to deliver its broad customer base a variety of new deals and rewards. Now, the firm has joined forces with another social media giant, Twitter.
The new partnership allows AmEx card members to sync their cards with Twitter, turning Twitter hash tags into coupon-less savings. When card members tweet using “Special Offer” hash tags, savings are directly added to their synced cards. The savings are automatically delivered as a statement credit after cardholders use their synced card for a qualifying in-store or online purchase at participating merchants.
In addition, American Express has created @amexsync, an automated notification handle that confirms offers and provides first-time users of “Special Offers” hashtags with links to sync their cards with Twitter.
American Express continues to be an innovator in the social media space. The firm provides customers with easy ways to connect and save using their favorite social media sites – Facebook, Foursquare and now Twitter. The fact that savings are automatically loaded to the card, makes it easier for cardholders to receive the coupon-less discount, and much more likely to claim them. The partnership is one other card issuers and businesses will likely duplicate in the near future.
