In mid-December, Fidelity partnered with LearnVest to launch a new Fidelity Money Firsts sitelet, promoted solely through the firm’s Facebook page. The education-focused sitelet is designed to help Millennials understand the potential financial hurdles many will face when they begin their young careers and transition into adulthood. The sitelet provides a host of resources, including articles, videos and quizzes that aim to educate users on various financial planning topics. Additionally, Fidelity utilizes the value of social media and word of mouth marketing when connecting with a younger generation by allowing users to share virtually all of the content found within the sitelet through Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn.
In December’s Mutual Fund Monitor report, LinkedIn or Losing Out? The Highs and Lows of Asset Management Brand Pages on LinkedIn, we examined the LinkedIn company pages offered by leading asset management firms. The report assessed the efforts firms make to engage and attract followers – from posting content to creating a welcoming experience on the Careers tab that highlights the company’s office culture. Establishing a set of strict standards is difficult when dealing with social media. However, there are general guidelines of LinkedIn style and etiquette upon which most can agree. The following are five strategy tips that asset management firms can use to strengthen their LinkedIn company pages:
The Royce Funds has been a leader in small- and micro-cap investing for more than 40 years. Reflecting this approach, the firm has over 100 employees and approximately $36 billion in assets, making it one of the smaller firms covered in this series. However, the firm’s website makes an outsized impact, adopting a design philosophy and visual personality completely distinct from any other firm we’ve reviewed. For example, on a technical level, the site is one of the few we’ve seen that employs responsive web design. Visually, the site often includes illustrations alongside more traditional images, which gives the site a unique and friendly aesthetic.
A recent trend throughout certain financial retail websites is the addition of articles and other information focusing on socially conscious and sustainable investment options. Starting in March 2013, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management has introduced a variety of environmental and socially conscious investing content to their public website. The new A Transforming World section consists of two pages – Values-Based Investing and Outlook 2031– and a sitelet titled A Transforming World.
