Thought Leadership Day Provides Deep Insights into the U.S. Financial Services Landscape

The Challenge

Presentation_with_TabletOne of Canada’s top banks was planning a thought leadership day for key stakeholders and executives from its deposit and investment channels. The goal was to conduct an engaging event to help the team understand trends that could disrupt their business in the next two to five years. The firm was interested in looking beyond the Canadian market to understand trends in the U.S., as these tend to foreshadow events in the Canadian market. The firm was specifically interested in how technology and changing customer demographics/ preferences were forcing established financial institutions to rethink some longstanding business practices.

The Solution

As the keynote speaker, we collaborated with our client to help shape the event’s agenda, which included a total of nine presentations delivered by the firm’s executive leadership and several third-party subject matter experts and consultants. For our presentation, we worked with the client to identify the most important issues to the firm’s different business units, as well as themes that complemented the day’s other presentations. We discussed such subjects as the rise of the Millennial consumer, the looming talent shortage in the advice industry, and the impact that fintech firms are having on the competitive landscape across multiple consumer finance verticals in the U.S. Our presentation drew from numerous sources, including proprietary consumer and advisor survey data, as well as special studies Corporate Insight had recently published on the disruptive forces at work in the financial services industry today.

The Impact

Our 90-minute keynote presentation provided attendees with a clear view of the financial services industry landscape in the U.S., with an eye toward trends that could potentially impact the Canadian market. Through a Q&A session, we were able to address numerous questions from the large and engaged audience. In the months that followed, Corporate Insight advised senior leadership in the firm’s asset management division on the potential impact of digital advice providers on the Canadian financial services marketplace.
