April’s Mobile Trend of the Month focused on the deals that can be selected within credit card issuer’s iPhone apps. While the firms reviewed did an excellent job with a smaller screen, the iPad’s larger display better lends itself to online shopping. A good example of this is the Shop Discover section of Discover’s iPad app, which allows card holders to take advantage of deals, coupons, and Cashback Bonus offers from over 200 retailers.
Discover iPad App Review
The iPad app’s Shop Discover user interface is laid out nicely, allowing cardholders to either browse through the retailers listed, search for a specific product or deal, or filter retailers by type category or Cashback Bonus amounts. Each retailer a cardholder selects may offer any combination of deals, coupon codes, free shipping, or a chance at a Cashback Bonus. Once they have selected an offer, users will follow a link to the merchants website in their iPad’s browser to continue shopping.
Discover’s “Shop Discover” Page (iPad)
Finally, Discover has recently extended its “Extras” deals to the iPad. This program lets clients view offers from partner merchants so that clients can find savings opportunities for their everyday shopping. The app itself lists deals that clients can take advantage of by shopping in store or online.
Selecting a Retailer
Due to the intuitive user interface, multiple shopping options, and significant number of retail partners linked within the app, Discover’s iPad app should be considered a leader in shopping and rewards redemptions for credit card issuers on the iPad. Other card firms such as American Express and Capital One offer rewards redemptions and deals through their apps, but, among firms we track, Shop Discover is the only bonus earning mall we’ve seen on the device. As more people use their tablets for online shopping, firms should find creative ways to make their apps the starting point.
