P&C Insurance Monitor is pleased to present our annual report recognizing the top websites and mobile features of coverage group property and casualty insurers. This year, we identify industry leaders across six high-level categories: Public Homepage, Private Homepage, Mobile App, Bill Pay, Homeowners Quote Tools, and Safety and Preparation Resources. We now provide an overview of the Mobile App category along with an outline of the gold, silver and bronze medal recipients.
Our assessment of mobile apps is one of the most important and dynamic categories in the P&C Monitor Awards Report. Firms’ mobile apps must provide a similar robust customer experience to their desktop site counterparts, complete with account information and common transactions. In this category, we look at the overall design and functionality of firms’ mobile apps, evaluating them based on the breadth of account data and servicing transactions available. This year, we place a heavier emphasis on the types of resources offered, such as quote tools and voice navigation, to identify digital innovators.
GEICO and USAA share the gold medal for their impressive mobile apps. Both firms offer all-encompassing mobile apps in terms of their quality policy information, unique resources and help features. GEICO continually improves on its well-rounded mobile app, reintroducing its voice-navigation tool, Kate (formerly Lily), this year to allow clients quick access to app features using vocal commands. GEICO also integrated a Lyft ride-sharing functionality into its app this year, enabling customers to request a Lyft ride directly within the GEICO app. GEICO continues to be one of the few coverage group firms to offer in-app quoting tools for auto, motorcycle and ATV insurance. In addition, GEICO’s app can now sync with Apple Watches, allowing users to pay bills from their wrists, and the firm introduced an iOS widget providing access to roadside assistance and ID cards.
USAA’s gold-medal-winning mobile app features an extensive collection of policy servicing functions and unique resources. Clients can update policy characteristics and obtain a quote for auto, homeowners and renters insurance. The app’s strengths lie in its unique resources, most notably its car buying research and home value tracking. Similar to GEICO, USAA offers voice-enabled navigation, a Wallet feature and Apple Watch capabilities for its impressive mobile app. The app also provides access to several member-centric resources, including a news center and member community blog, to encourage clients to stay within the app for general and educational reasons.

Liberty Mutual receives a silver medal for its well-rounded mobile app, which provides all necessary policy information and servicing capabilities. In addition to those capabilities, this year, Liberty Mutual introduced the option for clients to update home characteristics of the insured property within the app, which is an extremely rare and beneficial mobile servicing option. The app also includes the firm’s touted Coverage Compass tool and Safe & Smart Living educational articles.
Finally, Allstate takes a bronze medal for its user-friendly mobile app with several policy servicing functions and a library for auto and property insurance education. This year, the firm added a Keep Me Logged In feature and an iOS widget to let users circumvent the login process and expedite access to key areas of the app. The widget displays clients’ premium amount, next payment amount and due date and offers quick links to ID cards, payments, agent information and roadside assistance.
