  • New Promotions and Card Offer Changes from Seven Firms

Clients get their setup fee waived when they convert an existing Uni-K, solo-k or individual 401(k) to a Merrill Edge Individual 401(k) by September 30. American Express changed the introductory spend offers on nine cards, while Chase lowered the initial spend offer for its Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus card, and Capital One increased the initial spend offer for the Quicksilver card. Barclaycard US increased the initial spend offer for the AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard, added a financing term to the Barclaycard Visa with Apple Rewards card and introduced a reward boost for the Diamond Resorts International Mastercard. Citicards increased the initial spend offer on the Citi ThankYou Premier card, decreased the initial spend offer on the Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard and increased the introductory period on the Citi Double Cash card. S. Bank increased the cashback earnings rate on the Cash+ card.

  • Firms Continue to React to June Policy Changes

Five firms commented on the Fed rate hike and the future of Fed policy. Invesco added a blog post, while Voya, Legg Mason, Federated and Hartford Funds offered commentaries. Six firms addressed the DOL Rule implementation. Athene provided resources to help advisors understand the effects of the rule through a DOL Producer Guide as well as an article reminding them to use updated forms compliant with the rule. Lincoln and Prudential added documents for advisors, Lincoln’s focusing on impact and Prudential’s providing FAQs. Pacific Life addressed the rule multiple times in July, with two articles and an update to the DOL Fiduciary Rule page. Vanguard and OppenheimerFunds each added commentaries.


Edward Jones Updates Login Process

Edward Jones consolidated its login interface, placing both the username and password entry fields on a single page. The firm also updated authentication features, removing security images and adding the option to receive security codes via text or email when logging in on a new device, as well as automatically enrolling clients into security questions. On the mobile app, iOS users can use Touch ID, and the firm anticipates adding the feature for Android users soon.

Ameriprise Redesigns Private Site Navigation and Overview Page

The new navigation provides five main tabs for reorganizing existing content and allows clients to compose messages directly from the envelope icon flyout. The header and footer were also consolidated, reducing the abundance of text and links. The Overview page features a widened format and new Portfolio Progress and Recent Activity sections.

Vanguard Revamps Retirement Plan Participant Site and Mobile App

The participant site features a new navigational structure, homepage and retirement income projection tool. The navigation provides an anchored section housing a collapsible sidebar menu and a search field. The homepage offers a static quick links section, along with a columnar structure detailing the participant’s account information. The new retirement income projection tool follows best practices outlined in Corporate Insight’s November 2016 RPM Retirement Plan Monitor Report, including automatic data import, additional information inputs, intuitive visualizations, dynamic modeling and direct editing. The mobile app reflects these changes on the home screen and new tool abilities.
