The ability to manage investments is a central component of any retirement plan website. Our DC plan participant survey, which served as the backbone of our 2017 syndicated study, Satisfying Today’s Retirement Plan Participant, asked respondents to rate the importance of different transaction types. The ability to manage future investment allocations received the highest rating, as 69% of respondents deemed it to be very or extremely important. While there are multiple ways that participants can manage their future elections, from selecting risk-based portfolios to investing in target date funds, this Retirement Plan Monitor Report focuses on the processes for manually building portfolios by selecting individual funds. To establish best practices related to future investment election management transactions, Corporate Insight conducted an in-person user experience test. We reference our UX findings throughout the report and detail the study in the Research Methodology section.
