September 2015 Trends & Highlights: Android Pay, Football Season and Life Insurance Awareness Month

  • Android Pay Makes Its Debut; Samsung Pay Coming Soon  Both Bank and Credit Card Monitor firms featured the debut of Android Pay. While American Express, Bank of America, PNC Bank, U.S. Bank, USAA and Wells Fargo are offering Android Pay compatibility for credit cards, only PNC Bank and U.S. Bank added the Android Pay digital option for debit cards as well. Bank of America and U.S. Bank announced future compatibility with Samsung Pay, while Discover announced the arrival of Samsung Pay in 2016.
  • Firms Continue Commentary on Market Volatility  Market Volatility continues to be a popular topic among firms, with Ameriprise Financial, Aon Hewitt, Charles Schwab, Fidelity, Merrill Lynch, The Principal Financial Group, T. Rowe Price, Transamerica and Vanguard all adding various helpful resources and commentaries to their sites.
  • Football Season Kicks Off  Nationwide and Transamerica both kicked off football season by adding promotional campaigns to coincide with the NFL and college football seasons. Nationwide brought its Peyton Manning campaign back for the second year and released a related page with auto insurance and agent links. Transamerica’s current contest lets contestants submit videos about transformational mentors or coaches in their lives to try to win a trip to the 2016 College Football Showdown.

Discover Adds Apple Pay

Discover added Apple Pay for its card holders. A year after the Apple Pay launch, the firm now lets users add their Discover cards to compatible iOS devices. The firm added an Apple Pay page detailing the service’s security and convenience, and included steps to add cards.

Morgan Stanley Launched Revamped Private Site

Morgan Stanley launched a new private site this month with a sleek design, viewing customization options, improved navigation and more in-depth account information. The firm also updated its public login page with a similar design to the revamped private site. Clients can tour new features through tutorials on Navigation, Home, Accounts and Payments.

Life Insurance Awareness Month

John Hancock, Liberty Mutual, Pacific Life, The Principal Foundation and Prudential added content about the benefits of life insurance to celebrate Life Insurance Awareness Month during the month of September. John Hancock added a resource page, while Liberty Mutual featured the top 12 reasons to consider life insurance. Pacific Life added an image leading to a client guide to honor the month, while The Principal Foundation added a simple promotional banner image. Prudential added a new page featuring Anthony Anderson advocating life insurance, as the month’s spokesperson.
