vanguard_logo(1)February’s Retirement Plan Monitor report will focus on retirement mobile apps. The report is set for release in late-February.

Vanguard offers participants a good selection of account information and educational resources on their mobile apps. Vanguard’s apps are available on the Android, iPhone and iPad, making them one of the few firms in our Retirement Plan Monitor coverage group to offer an app for participants that is optimized for use on the iPad.

iPhone & Android Apps
The iPhone and Android apps’ client home screens provide participants with a number of pertinent figures upon login. Data includes the total account balance, accompanying value, loan value and a breakdown of the funds the retirement account is invested in along with their respective values.

The apps also offer detailed account performance information.  Participants can view a graph illustrating the performance of their retirement account(s) over the last two years as well as two color-coded pie charts, illustrating the current asset allocation and suggested allocation, respectively. A plethora of educational resources are also provided on the app including articles, podcasts, videos and market news.

iPad App
Vanguard’s iPad app is nearly identical to its iPhone and Android counterparts with a few additions that take advantage of the expanded real estate on the tablet screen. One example is the iPad app’s client home-screen which contains Asset Mix charts to complement the retirement account balance and fund information.
