A new article in Ignites discusses Vanguard’s retirement plan participant website redesign, and quotes Corporate Insight analyst Kara Melber:

Some 73% of retirement plan participants surveyed in late 2019 said the website experience was extremely or very important, according to Corporate Insight. About 1,700 participants responded to the survey, the research group notes.

Participant websites tend to lag behind client websites in other sectors, but recordkeepers have sought to catch up in recent years, says Kara Melber, a senior research associate on Corporate Insight’s retirement team.

Vanguard’s existing participant site uses a so-called hamburger menu for navigation, which may lead some participants to miss things on the site, she says.

The new site is anchored at the top and features links as well as more white space than the old one, with a larger font in certain places. About 80% of the participants Corporate Insight surveyed said a large font is extremely or very important to them, Melber notes.
